Serving the town of Colebrook, Connecticut

Colebrook Fire Department with fire apparatus.
About Center Fire Company

The origins of the department go back to February 1938. It was at that time several Colebrook residents decided that the era of the bucket brigade had outlived its usefulness and that the town deserved a more up to date system of providing fire protection.
The primary motivator was Floyd (Buster) Hart. He and Edwin D. Mills, William J. Gray, Walter Gray, Rudolph Stenman and Paul Crosby formed themselves into a corporation of subscribers whose purpose was to provide fire protection to Colebrook Center and the immediate surroundings
The organization of the fire department remained as such until 1950, when, at a special Town Meeting on February 6, 1950, the town voted that fire protection shall be provided for the entire town by the Fire Department. The town voted to furnish necessary supplies and keep in repair fire fighting equipment for the Fire Department.
About Forge Fire Company

In February of 1950, members of the Colebrook community collectively decided that more fire protection was needed in the Valley of Colebrook known as Robertsville. The long winding road that took travelers north to Massachusetts was a main thoroughfare with many houses and farms along the way. Fueled by a desire to provide aid to the community in as quick a fashion as possible, the founding members took up a post on Riverton Road, just a half mile from the much busier “Route 8.”
Priding themselves on family tradition, the Forge Fire Company has seen many generations of firefighters and officers pass the torch to their siblings, children, and even grandchildren. It is with great honor that the Forge Fire Company continues to serve its wonderful little town, more than seventy years later.
Colebrook Fire is solely a volunteer organization, and relies on donations from residents, as well as funding through the Colebrook town budget.
